The Roots of Horning’s Country Store
Horning’s Country Store first opened in 1979 out of Ken & Fay Horning’s garage. Fay began selling baking supplies to her friends & neighbors as a way to supplement their farming income. As the business grew, they decided to move to the Lykens location. In the following years, they expanded further by adding onto the building. This allowed for a wider variety of products to better serve the local community. Over 40 years later, Ken & Fay made the decision to retire.
In 2021 the store was purchased by its current owners, Ben and Ruth Ann Kauffman.
They continue to offer affordable bulk foods, beautiful solid wood furniture, and outdoor poly furniture. They’ve recently added a new feature to the basement. This includes new appliances and closeout items from major retailers at discounted prices.

Ben & Ruth Ann are committed to keeping all the wonderful things people love about Horning’s while taking the store in a new and exciting direction. The recent additions to our basement bring money-saving opportunities to customers who are looking for new appliances, home goods, children’s clothing, and more. These quality items from major retailers are discounted as much as 75%, helping customers make their dollars go further.

We’ve been working diligently to update and streamline how we handle special orders and meet our customer’s needs. We strive to make every customer feel like they’re in their own hometown, no matter where they’re from! We also continue to bring an honest and straightforward way of doing business to the comfortable shopping atmosphere established here in the Lykens Valley. Our goal is to provide the kind of customer service so rarely found anymore, where communication and understanding are key. As always, we are proud to provide hundreds of products and a pleasant shopping experience for all!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, most credit & debit cards, checks, and store-issued gift cards.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept SNAP at this time.
What is your return policy?
Generally, we require the customer to have their receipt, that it has been 30 days or less since the purchase, & that the item is in its original packaging.
All refunds are given in cash or store credit regardless of payment method.
Certain situations require approval from upper management.

Do you ship?
In most cases, shipping can be arranged at the customer’s expense.
Do you deliver?
At this time we do not have a delivery service set up.
Do you still offer dry cleaning services?
We are a dropoff location for Steininger’s Laundry & Dry Cleaning in Selinsgrove. Items are typically picked up every week on Thursday morning. For more details about pricing and turnaround times call (570) 374-4496.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes, we do. You can pay with any payment method we normally accept. The maximum amount we can put on one gift card is $500
Do you carry teaberry candy?
Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn’t make those anymore and no one makes anything similar. We do however have multiple options of teaberry/ wintergreen flavoring.
Do you carry Einkorn?
